Description
This text is designed to introduce functional biomechanics of the foot in an enhanced retention format. Hopefully, this type of learning experience will be a useful adjunct in the didactic presentation of foot biomechanics. Additionally, it should be serviceable as a tool for the practitioner to help expand or reinforce previously existing knowledge in this specialty area.

The goal of this book is to provide the reader with an understanding of foot function in the normal and common pathologic states. To this end, the reader is exposed to the fundamental considerations of foot function as well as clinical considerations such as the biomechanical examination.

In the format employed in this book, the answer to the question or blank is in the left margin next to the frame immediately following. Thus, by simply covering the entire portion of the page below the statement being assessed, the eye of the reader should not experience any temptation to roam to the answer prematurely. After arriving at a response, the reader should move the cover sheet down (just past the next frame) to see if the answer is correct, and, if so, continue with the next frame (beside the correct response to the previous one). If an incorrect response has been given, the reader should go back to the frame(s) explaining the subject under consideration and proceed forward from that point.
In this manner, the reader should develop a sound and rational command of the material being presented. It is suggested that one and only one chapter should be completed at a sitting. By completing more material, long-term retention may be diminished. By completing less than one chapter, the logical train of thought is broken, again potentially sacrificing retention.

Foot function is conceptually complex. It is the intent of this book to present this subject in a manner that is educationally valid and intellectually comfortable.
